How to Beat Yo-Yo Dieting Today!

yo-yo dieting

Yo-yo dieting refers to eating habits which usually result in minimal weight loss in exchange of a larger weight gain. You lose 2-3 kilos for the first week, only to regain 4-5 kilos for the next three weeks.

Not only does it do more harm to your body, it can also make you fail to meet your fitness goals as your body will be unable to become stronger with unstable eating habits.

There are ways on how you can beat yo-yo dieting for good! Here are some strategies that you can use to transform the way you eat.

Know your body

Everyone is built differently. That means your body’s optimal eating habits are different from that of other people. One of the most common problems that we encounter today is the fact that everyone has self-imposed societal rules on what to eat and when to eat.

Let’s look at children for instance. Children typically have different and unique eating patterns when they are young. It is only when they grow up and have adapted to societal patterns that they eat the way they do as adults. The number one rule is to know your body well.  It is so important to learn how to rely on your intuition to determine when and how much to eat.  This is the only way that you can truly do the best thing for you.

Reducing the stress

One of the primary causes of yo-yo dieting as well as other unhealthy eating practice is stress. Stress can come from work or other concerns in your life. In order to manage the way you eat, it is crucial to evaluate the things that make you feel stressed.

Find a way to manage these stresses and you will discover just how you can effectively reduce your body’s cravings.

Focus on your body’s nutritional requirements

People on yo-yo dieting are typically starving themselves on the first few weeks, only to eat in an undisciplined manner in the following weeks. Instead of focusing on just the calories, it is a good idea to turn your attention to the amount of nutrition that you get from your food.

For instance, it is a good idea to eat 3 to 5 servings of vegetables daily. The nutritional value of vegetables has the ability to suppress your cravings, not to mention it makes you healthier in the long run.

Drink a lot of water per day!

The body is composed mostly of water. However, we often times forget the importance of water in our day to day lives. As rule of thumb, it is a good idea to consume a lot of water. Just how much water is enough? Generally, 1.5 litres is enough for the entire day. However, it can also vary depending on your level of activity and the amount of caffeinated drinks that you take. By consuming a sufficient amount of water, you avoid confusing the body that it is hungry.

Conclusion

Yo-yo dieting can be harmful to your body’s overall health. It doesn’t help you cut weight in a healthy way, and it only leads to a bigger problem in the future. With changing jusst 2 or 3 different aspects of your daily life, you can heal your eating habits and live a healthier life.

You are so right about stress interfering with our eating habits. When we are stressed, we just want to feel better immediately. That’s why it’s so important to have healthy habits that we just automatically do.
